“I am not a teacher, but an awakener.”
-Robert Frost

A few years ago, one of my clients handed me this Robert Frost quote at the end of her retreat time with me and said, “Lauren, I think this captures who you are”. I framed that little piece of paper and I have treasured this moment of recognition, as it does express more eloquently than I ever could, the essence of my own sense of purpose.

My work is about helping you awaken to the beauty and wisdom within, gently holding your hand and guiding you through a soulful journey of self-discovery that enables you to embrace your worthiness of your own self-love and self-care, and empowering you to take your power back from the places you have been giving it away. When you are able to see yourself clearly, embrace the light that you are and really own it, a compelling vision and sense of meaning and  purpose emerges naturally and your happiness begins to blossom.

I’ve been a professional life coach for over fourteen years now and it makes my heart sing to partner with you to help you find yourself and the confidence, clarity and conviction to create the inspired life that will bring you joyful fulfillment. My joy in helping you comes from a place of having been there and done that! The strength of my gift for awakening others comes from having experienced my own awakening journey.

How I Came To Do This Work

From the time I was a child, I wanted to be what I liked to think of as a “Happy Maker”.  I wanted to help people, make them smile, and yes, please them. If you are a people pleaser too, you know that it’s easy to get so wrapped up in pleasing others that you may neglect your own needs to the point of burnout, boredom or blues, even to the point of forgetting what it is that makes you happy!

That’s what happened to me in my earlier years. I gave so much of myself in service to others needs that I lost myself for a period of time. My journey from lost to found has taught me that happiness is truly an inside job.

I was always interested in psychology and self-help and as early as my twenties, I felt an inner calling to write a book that would help other women. However, at twenty, I didn’t have a whole lot of life experience to draw on; in fact, life wasn’t nearly done giving me “learning” experiences!

Like most college students, I didn’t really have clarity about what I wanted to do with my life. I thought about psychology, journalism, fashion design, and other creative or people-oriented fields of study. Under the influence of my well-meaning parents, I enrolled in “something to do with business and computers” and went on to get my Bachelors of Science in Technology from the University of Houston.

My “business and computers” degree in college had led me to a lucrative but demanding and stressful career in marketing and management in the high-tech industry in Silicon Valley. The creative part of me steered my career toward marketing communications and the people-oriented part of me enjoyed building and managing teams. I had unconsciously played to my strengths in my career path, but my real passions were still calling to me, though I couldn’t quite put my finger on what they were.

On the relationship front, I had married my high school sweetheart at 19 (actually, I should say junior high school sweetheart, as he gave me a promise ring at 13!). We collected our college degrees together and parted ways. By 22, I’d been in one relationship for nearly ten years! I didn’t know how to be alone and I remarried very quickly.

My second husband and I were married for 14 years before a midlife crisis of mammoth proportions sent him off the deep-end with a devastating crystal-meth addiction, turning our lives upside down, leaving me a single-mom with two young sons, and dealing with a two-year roller coaster of heart-stopping crises and the depths of fear, sadness and despair. All this while trying to maintain some semblance of focus on my job and striving to be strong and present for my children.

The stress of my now ex-husband’s drug addiction took its toll on my mind, body and spirit and led me to one of those deep soul-searching moments. As painful as those kind of experiences are, they are the catalysts that compel us to find our deepest truth and act on it.

The “Happy Maker” in me finally made my own happiness a priority and that very journey led me to the realization that I wanted to do work that made a difference in the lives of people. I embarked on a path of self-discovery, followed by extensive training and certification to become a life coach. In 2001, I left the world of high-tech marketing behind to pursue my passions full time. I am a Professional Certified Coach (PCC) with the International Coach Federation and also a Board Certified Coach (BCC) through the Center for Credentialing and Education.

Giving Wings to My Own Dreams

In 2007, I published my book Give Wings to Your Dreams: Reawaken Your Joy and Passion for Life, the culmination of my personal dream to write a book to help other women find happiness in life. (If you’d like to read more of my story and preview my book, you can get the first two chapters of my book by clicking here).

I have been facilitating private 1:1 and small group women’s retreats in Santa Barbara, California since 2001. If what I have described in these pages calls to you, it would be my joy and pleasure to work with you. If you are interested in working with me, please don’t hesitate to call me at (805) 569-2564 or email me, and we can explore your needs together.

When I’m not working with clients or working on a creative project, you can find me walking on the beach in beautiful Santa Barbara. The sound of the waves and the gentle ocean breeze nurture my soul. At home, I enjoy hammock time in my garden and reading stacks of books. I love being in nature in places like Sedona or Yosemite and have a passion for tropical island vacations with my husband, Eric. I have an empty nest now, with two amazing young adult sons.
